An Adaptive Resorcinarene Hemicarcerand

A new resorcinarene-based hemicarcerand was developed, exhibiting pronounced flexibility in size and shape to accommodate several guest molecules. With a series of seven hemicarceplexes, investigated via single-crystal XRD, the cage molecule showed align its guests complement their electrostatic potentials adjust dimensions, according molecule‘s demand. Though forming equimolar inclusion complexes with most guests, crystallization from chloroform, benzonitrile produced hemicarceplexes guest/host ratio 2 : 1, packing coefficients as high 91 %. In competition experiments, clearly favors p-xylene over m-xylene: The host shows crystallize, solely incarcerating 1 mixture two xylenes, also isolates amorphous precipitation.
